We are dairy farmers, multiple allied industries and professional advisory supporters working together to sustain and grow Kentucky's dairy industry.

Dairy farmers work hard every day to provide fresh, wholesome, quality milk and dairy  products to consumers.  They love their land, the animals in their care and way of life on the farm.  Dairy cows are economic generators. The averge dairy cow generates over $13,700 in economic ripple effect each year.

Our mission:  "To educate, promote and represent dairy producers and foster an environment for growth of the Kentucky Dairy Industry."

Kentucky has 792 permitted dairy farms as of February, 2013. Cow numbers stand at 73,000 head. Production per cow increased 6.1 percent in 2012 over 2011 resulting in total statewide production increase of 3.3 percent. Some of this increase can be attributed to the KDDC Market Incentive Leadership for KY, (MILK) Program which  provides incentives to KY dairy producers for increasing production while maintaining excellent milk quality. Over 25 percent of all KY dairy farmers are enrolled in the KDDC MILK Program with 44 percent of the state’s total milk pounds included. To learn more about the MILK Program, contact KDDC at kddc@kydairy.org or call 859-516-1129.

MILC Payments to Restart

USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) administrator Juan Garcia announced farm payments, which had been temporarily suspended due to sequestration, are scheduled to resume. This includes payments for the 2011 Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Program (SURE), the Noninsured Crop Assistance Program (NAP) and the Milk Income Loss Contract Program (MILC).

On March 4, FSA began a temporary suspension of FSA program payments in order to assess the impact of sequestration and determine the least-disruptive process possible for carrying out required cuts.

Producers should be advised that program sign-up periods currently underway have the following enrollment deadlines: 2013 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program – June 3; 2011 SURE – June 7; and the 2013 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program – August 2. Producers should contact their local Farm Service Agency office as soon as possible for appointments to enroll in these programs before the deadlines.
